Description
1) Objective
The Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust was established in 1963 in support of projects in the fields of (1) Wildlife and Environmental Conservation; and (2) Family Planning (incl. care of the elderly, youth care, general welfare). Most of the financial support for the first programmatic area – wildlife and environmental conservation – is limited to charities operating in the county of Sussex. The second programmatic area – family planning – is open for projects in the UK and worldwide. There is an eligibility questionnaire available on their website.
2) Eligibility
Preference is given to charities working in the fields of Wildlife and Environmental Conservation (UK and International), charities operating in the county of Sussex, and to a much lesser extent charities working in the field of Family Planning (UK and International). Only UK based charities are funded. An organisation can only apply once per year.
3) Location
Outside the UK funds are provided for projects worldwide.
4) Budget
The Trust operates various grant schemes: (1) Small Grants (up to £10,000); (2) Medium Grants (up to £20,000); and (3) Large Grants (more than £20,000). Annual funding volume is around £650,000.
5) Application
Submissions are done online. Deadlines are: (1) Small Grants: applications for Small Grants may be made at any time of year; trustees aim to consider applications and notify applicants within 30 days of receipt of an application form; (2) Medium Grants: applications for Medium Grants will be considered four times a year by a small group of trustees; trustees aim to consider applications and notify applicants within 8 – 12 weeks of receipt of an application form; and (3) Large Grants: applications for Large Grants will be considered by trustees twice a year at full board meeting. Trustees aim to consider applications and notify applicants within 12 – 15 weeks or receipt of an application form.
