Description
1) Objective
GlobalGiving is an online fundraising platform that gives social entrepreneurs and nonprofits from anywhere in the world a chance to raise the money they need to improve their communities. The platform provides local organizations with access to the funding, tools, training, and support they need to become more effective. As an additional feature (besides the fundraising function of the platform) organisations get the chance to become a permanent member of the GlobalGiving community, receiving access to fundraising training and resources (among several features) in case the organisation manages to raise $5,000 from 40 unique donors via the platform. Their work is based on a simple but powerful goal: find organisations best positioned to solve problems in their communities, help increase their impact and support they need to become more effective.
2) Eligibility
Non-profit organisations and social entrepreneurs are eligible to apply.
3) Location
Campaigns can be launched worldwide.
4) Budget
There are no costs for non-profits to join GlobalGiving, but GlobalGiving retains a 5-12% fee on donations, including the 3% credit card transaction cost.
5) Application
Interested organisations have to register online and create an organisational account. Users are advised to add as much relevant content related to the project as possible. GlobalGiving performs rigorous due diligence on every organisation in the GlobalGiving community in order to ensure they are performing charitable work in a transparent and accountable manner, and that they meet local requirements for registration with their local government. GlobalGiving collects and reviews documentation for every organisation, including its legal documents, financial records, program materials, and lists of senior staff and board members, in order to validate the organization that is running the project as described.
