Description
1) Objective
ABILIS Foundation is a development fund, founded by people with disabilities in Finland in 1998. The Foundation supports the activities of persons with disabilities in developing countries. All ABILIS funded projects are based on the need of disabled persons who play a vital role in the planning and implementation of the project.
The objective of the grant opportunity is to support the activities of persons with disabilities in developing countries. All Abilis funded projects are based on the need of disabled persons. They themselves play a vital role in the planning and implementation of the project, they are its owners as well as beneficiaries. The Foundation gives priority to projects which promote the Human Rights of persons with disabilities and/or improve the position of disabled women.
2) Eligibility
Funding is only offered to developing countries, disability organizations, whose board is at least 51% disabled people or parents of disabled children. To ensure fairness and achieve success, disability organizations are required to make decisions democratically and must have adequate administrative and financial management skills.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Nepal, Tajikistan, Uganda, Myanmar, Vietnam, Somalia, Somaliland, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Middle East (Palestine, Lebanon), Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Ukraine.
4) Budget
ABILIS Foundation gives small grants ranging from €2,000 – €10,000 with projects lasting on average 1-2 years. These are one-time grants for new projects. They require that the applicant organisation contributes towards the project. The value of this contribution must be 10 % of the total grant. The grants are paid in three installments. The first installment is 50% of the total grant, and it is paid at the start of the project. The second installment, 40 % of the total grant, will be paid after they approve the mid-term report. The last installment which is 10% of the grant is transferred only once the ABILIS Foundation has approved the projects final report.
5) Application
An application can be sent anytime to abilis(a)abilis.fi. The following documents need to be submitted: (1) Application form with signatures, (2) Work plan, (3) Budget, (5) Two reference forms and (5) A copy of your certificate of registration.
