Description
1) Objective
ABILIS Foundation is a development fund, founded by people with disabilities in Finland in 1998. The Foundation supports the activities of persons with disabilities in developing countries. All ABILIS funded projects are based on the need of disabled persons who play a vital role in the planning and implementation of the project.
The objective of the grant opportunity is to support the activities of persons with disabilities in developing countries. All Abilis funded projects are based on the need of disabled persons. They themselves play a vital role in the planning and implementation of the project, they are its owners as well as beneficiaries. The Foundation gives priority to projects which promote the Human Rights of persons with disabilities and/or improve the position of disabled women.
2) Eligibility
Funding is only offered to developing countries, disability organizations, whose board is at least 51% disabled people or parents of disabled children. To ensure fairness and achieve success, disability organizations are required to make decisions democratically and must have adequate administrative and financial management skills.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Nepal, Tajikistan, Uganda, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Ukraine.
4) Budget
On average, the project activities are implemented within 1–2 years and the grant sizes vary between €3,500 – €15,000, while the average grant size is €10,000. In addition to small projects, they have long-term projects that can take up to 2–3 years and have a budget of tens of thousands of euros.
5) Application
An application can be sent anytime to the respective country office mentioned on their website. Organisations need to contact the country staff who will be happy to send the application form and guidance.
