Description
1) Objective
The mission of The Goggio Family Foundation is to transform lives and strengthen communities by fostering innovation, creating knowledge, and promoting social progress. The Foundation has three programmatic areas:
- The Community Development and Social Change Program: promotes social progress and sustainable economic development through advances in science, health, arts, and technology. They are concerned about the needs of low-income and disadvantaged individuals and communities. They seek ways to support leadership development, community empowerment, and economic development where it is most needed.
- The Environmental Preservation Program: supports technology innovation, education, and action around issues of energy, climate change, and strategies for the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of ecosystems. An area of interest is promoting consensus building among government, business, and non-governmental organizations aimed at improving environmental policies.
- The Educational Program: encourages the attainment of knowledge and skills, and the practice of responsible citizenship through access to learning opportunities. The Foundation provides support for innovative programs to develop leadership skills, provide support to at-risk and/or disenfranchised youth, and support programs that promote academic excellence, artistic expression, and critical thinking. There is particular interest in programs for students from under-served communities, and for teachers to improve their own capabilities and performance.
2) Eligibility
The Foundation typically funds small or new US based non-profits that have innovative approaches to solve social problems.
3) Location
Outside the United States they have no defined focus countries.
4) Budget
Grants may range from $1,000 to $20,000, but most grants will be under $5,000 per year.
5) Application
The Goggio Family Foundation accepts Letters of Interest (LOIs) in June and July (but as close to August 1st as possible so that information is up-to-date and responsive to current grantee needs). LOIs must be received August 1st to be considered for funding issued by the end of the calendar year to be used in the following calendar year. They then request full grant applications from a select group by invitation. Grant Applications (once requested) must be received by October 15th at the latest, though early submissions are encouraged. Grants will be distributed in December. LOIs are submitted online.
