GEF Botswana

Description

1) Objective

The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program invites Civil Society Organisations (Non-Governmental Organisations, Community-Based Organisations, Cooperative Societies), Academic and Research Institutions to submit project proposals that promote and support innovative, inclusive and scalable initiatives that foster multi-stakeholder partnerships at the local level. The proposed initiatives must be implemented outside the three selected OP8 landscapes, namely the Makgadikgadi Wetlands Area, Bobirwa District, and the Panhandle of the Okavango Delta.

The proposed projects must address the following strategic initiatives: Community-based conservation of threatened ecosystems and species, Sustainable agriculture and fisheries, and food security and low-carbon energy access co-benefits consistent with the country environmental management and development priorities as well as the GEF targets.

2) Eligibility

The SGP only supports non-profit-oriented institutions registered in Botswana, such as Civil Society Organizations (Non-Governmental Organizations and Community-Based Organizations), Cooperatives and Academic and Research Institutions (companies/private sector entities and individuals are not eligible).

3) Location

Actions must take place in Botswana.

4) Budget

Grant size may range up to $50,000.

5) Application

Proposals should reach the addresses no later than 08th October 2026, (1200hrs) Botswana Time.
