Description

1) Objective

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) advances social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world. The Rockefeller Brothers Fund is a private, family Foundation helping to advance social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world. It was created in 1940 by the sons of John D. Rockefeller. The Fund’s grantmaking is organized around three thematic programs: (1) democratic practice; (2) peacebuilding and sustainable development; and (3) three place-based programs: Southern China, Western Balkans and Central America.

Through its grantmaking, the Fund supports efforts to expand knowledge, clarify values and critical choices, nurture creative expression, and shape public policy. The Fund’s programs are intended to develop leaders, strengthen institutions, engage citizens, build community, and foster partnerships that include government, business, and civil society.

2) Eligibility

All kinds of non-profit organisations, including research institutions that work to expand knowledge and shape public policy, are eligible.

3) Location

The Rockefeller Brothers Fund operates worldwide with a focus on Southern China, Western Balkans and Central America.

4) Budget

Grants range up to $500,000 and they fund on average 200-300 projects per year. Their annual grant budget is around $28 million and average grant size is $90,000.

5) Application

Applications for funding are considered year-round. However, while unsolicited requests can be sent year-round, the likelihood of an unsolicited request becoming a grant is low. If there is interest in considering a grant, they will contact applicants for additional information, including a detailed proposal. The review process may take up to three months from the time the application is received. Often, staff members actively identify organisations that are well-positioned to meet programmatic goals and contact them directly.
