Description
1) Objective
The European Youth Foundation (EYF) is a fund established in 1972 by the Council of Europe to provide financial and educational support for European youth activities. A pilot activity of EYF should be an “intervention”, i.e. an activity addressing a contextual societal challenge affecting young people at local level. It should also be based on innovation or on replication. Pilot activities should have clear links to and an impact on the local context and correspond to focused themes of the Council of Europe youth programme.
Specific focus is given to certain themes under each priority every year. These are the themes adopted for 2019:
- Access to rights: (1) Initiatives combating gender inequalities and gender-based violence; (2) Initiatives advocating access to rights for young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods; and (3) Activities promoting critical thinking and media literacy.
- Youth participation and youth work: Activities supporting young people’s political awareness, active citizenship, civil involvement, participation and decision making at local and regional levels in co-operation with local authorities.
- Inclusive and peaceful societies: (1) Activities addressing anti-discrimination and intersectionality; and (2) Activities supporting social inclusion and participation of young migrants, refugees and other vulnerable groups and involving the local communities, with priority to self-led refugee organisations.
2) Eligibility
Eligible for support are: (1) regional network of youth NGOs; (2) national youth NGOs and local youth NGOs.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Europe.
4) Budget
The maximum grant allocated is €15,000. Contrary to international activities, the EYF can cover the real total costs of the activity up to this amount. Performance period is 1 year.
5) Application
The application process is done online. Applications must be submitted at least 3 months before the beginning of the activity. As priorly announced, 6 June 2022 was the last deadline for grant applications for pilot activities taking place in 2022. A deadline for applications for pilot activity projects to take place in 2023 jointly with the maximum amount allowed for pilot activity grants for 2023 will be made public by the end of this year. Until such publication, no pilot activity applications will be processed by the EYF.
