Description
1) Objective
Alert Youth Fund is an independent fund which supports progressive projects for young people. Young people are often not taken serious and in spite of their potential, young people are often not seen as the change agents they are. Alert considers it crucial that young people are heard and being listened to. Young people can be positive driving forces of changes, and Alert believes they need to be supported and encouraged in this. For this reason, Alert supports progressive youth projects globally with seed funding.
They support:
- Social, Economic and Political Equality: The world is unequally and unjustly divided when it comes to money and power. Alert believes that it is important that young people, via activism and progressive projects, are able to deliver a contribution to the exposure and improvement of the balance of power and economical inequality.
- Climate & Sustainability: Climate change and the exploitation of our earth is a serious problem that has negative effects on vulnerable groups of people, animals, and the environment itself. Alert supports initiatives that contribute to the awareness and/or behavior modification regarding sustainable life.
- Anti-Racism, Feminism, and Sexual Rights: Alert believes that everyone should be treated equally, offered equal chances, and not be discriminated against in society. Alert therefore supports actions, protests and other activistic projects which contribute to the emancipation of women, LGBTQIA+, and fight against racism.
- Human Rights: Alert wants all young people to be able to live in freedom. This is why Alert supports initiatives that focus on the conscientization of human rights and / or actions that demand these rights. Freedom of speech, freedom to and access to education and free media play important roles.
Examples of actions, protests, and other activist projects that the support are: (1) Protests that create awareness about systems that create the climate problem, like deforestation; (2) Direct action to underline human rights violations; (3) Costs for occupations and blockades; (4) Protests that create awareness of unequal treatment of marginalized groups.
2) Eligibility
Eligible are: legal entities and individuals. Activities must be organized by groups or individuals up to and including 34 years old.
3) Location
Actions can take place across the globe.
4) Budget
Organisations should have a total annual budget of less than €15,000 and require at most €1,500 from the Fund.
5) Application
In order to submit an application to the Alert Fund, applicants need to fill in an application form, send it in, along with a concrete project plan and a clear and specified budget. One can send these documents to them either by mail: alert(a)alertfonds.nl, through the online application or by postage. It takes an average of 1.5 to 3 months before applicants hear whether they can support the project. Therefore, they advice you to submit your application at least 3 months in advance. Applications from outside the Netherlands need a referee to vouch for the project. This can be someone living in the Netherlands or a reliable local person (for example an employee of an internationally known NGO).
