Description
1) Objective
The Awesome Foundation is an ever-growing worldwide crowdfunding community devoted to forwarding the interest of ‘awesome’ in the universe. Created in 2009 in Boston, the Foundation supports ‘awesome’ projects through micro-grants, usually given out monthly. These micro-grants, $1,000 or the local equivalent, come out of pockets of the chapter’s “trustees” and are given on a no-strings-attached basis to people and groups working on awesome projects.
Eligible for grant funding are all sorts of ‘awesome’ ideas and these could include initiatives in a wide range of areas including arts, technology, community development, and much more.
2) Eligibility
Non-profit organisations and social business organisations are eligible to apply.
3) Location
Micro-grant funding is provided to any ‘awesome’ projects across the globe.
4) Budget
Micro-grants are $1,000.
5) Application
The Foundation has different chapters and most chapters are geographic, but a few are organised along thematic lines. Each chapter provides its own (non-repayable) grants. Typically, ten “trustees” each contribute $100 (or the local equivalent) toward a monthly grant. Interested individuals/organisations are advised to apply to a chapter near their base (e.g. different sites in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Zambia, etc.), where they have roots or think people would have a particular interest in their idea. Application is done via the Foundation’s online application portal. Most chapters meet monthly to review applications and decide on a recipient, though some chapters make decisions at live “pitch” events open to the public. There are no deadlines.
