Description
1) Objective
Founded in 1994 as a private foundation, the Engineering Information Foundation (EIF) aims to improve worldwide engineering education and practice through information technology and the recruitment of women. Their grant activity supports developmental projects, instructional projects, and training programs in engineering education and research that fit our fields of interest. These currently include (1) enhancing communication and use of information skills of engineering students; and (2) recruiting and retaining women in engineering.
They prefer:
- Innovative projects, with measurable results
- Projects that promote significant and lasting change
- Projects that can be successfully replicated elsewhere
- Methodologies that are specific, well-defined and cost-effective
2) Eligibility
Eligible for grant funding are non-profit organisations (all applicants must qualify as exempt from taxation pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; for non-U.S. institutions please include an affidavit of equivalency, and/or name of intermediary organisation).
3) Location
Grant funding is provided to projects in the United States (especially for the first two programmatic areas) and for initiatives across the developing world.
4) Budget
The Foundation has an annual funding volume of around $200,000 and around 10 to 15 new grants are provided every year. Individual grant sizes vary, depending on the nature of the project (they are usually in the range between $5,000 and $25,000).
5) Application
Grant submission deadlines are February 28 and August 31. All proposals are reviewed by EiF’s Board of Directors in April and October. Decisions on applications will generally be forwarded within two weeks following the board meeting. Applications are submitted through the GivingHub applicant portal.
