Description
1) Objective
Founded in 1975 as a private family foundation in memory of Jeanne Lovioz, the Fondation de bienfaisance Jeanne Lovioz aims to support projects in the social, cultural and natural sphere. The Foundation has therefore defined the following two thematic program areas: (1) nature conservation and animal protection (most grant funding is allocated for projects in Switzerland and its neighbouring regions); and (2) social and socio-cultural area (most grant funding is allocated for projects in developing countries, including scholarships for missionaries).
Previously funded projects include: improving the living conditions of disadvantaged children and families in the communities of Ecuador, rainwater harvesting at the school or small gardens, construction of a school and kindergarten in India.
2) Eligibility
Eligible for grant funding are non-profit organisations across the globe, including missionaries (although a link to Swiss organisations is an advantage).
3) Location
Within the Foundation’s ‘social and socio-cultural area’, grant funding is provided for projects in developing countries worldwide. The regional focus however lies on Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe (i.e., Ecuador, India).
4) Budget
Individual grant sizes vary and tend to be in the range between €4,600 (CHF 5,000) and €23,600 (CHF 25,000).
5) Application
There are no formalised application procedures and no standard application forms. Proposals should include some organisational background (statutes), a short project description incl. objectives, beneficiaries and operational plan, a detailed budget and financing plan including potential co-financing sources, and the last annual report and audit. Applications should be sent by mail in hard copies. Funding decisions are taken in the Board meetings that take place in May and November every year. All proposals submitted by April 15 are considered in the Board meeting in May, and all proposals submitted by October 15 are considered in the Board meeting in November every year.
