Description
1) Objective
The Hans Foundation is a charitable trust fund that was created to provide a source of endowment for not-for-profit organizations in India. As one of India’s largest funds, they have aimed at funding hundreds of charitable organizations across India. Their mandate includes the advancement of education for all children with a focus on the girl child, specifically in rural and disadvantaged communities; improved access, without prejudice, for those in need to healthcare and related services; and specific dedication of resources will be given to the requirements of people with special needs (mentally and physically disabled) and the elderly. This does not mean that we are unwilling to consider individuals and groups working outside these fields, provided they fall within their mission.
2) Eligibility
The Foundation primarily finances; (1) small grass-roots organizations that operate directly in the communities that they serve as this ensures that the funds directly impact the people in need; (2) along with the local organizations, they also support larger organizations that have a greater outreach. With these organizations, they aim to develop solutions that are replicable across the country.
3) Location
The Hans Foundation’s activities are restricted to India alone.
4) Budget
As a rule in the first year of partnering with a new organization funding is restricted ranging from $600-$6,000 only, although the Foundation reserves the right to adjust these amounts depending on the project.
5) Application
Although the Foundation currently does not accept requests for grants from organisation unknown to them, organisations are still encouraged to get in touch in case of an interesting project idea. An application form is usually available on their website (in Hindi & English). The proposals are presented to the Trustees twice a year (April and October) for their approval. The final deadlines for full project proposals are end January and end July. Proposals received after the given time period will only be considered in the subsequent half.
