Description

1) Objective

The Hong Kong Bank Foundation supports a broad range of community projects in Hong Kong (around 150 projects annually). They fund projects in the areas of: social innovation and entrepeneurship, community development and social inclusion (i.e. disability, elderly), conserving biodiversity through wetland management and volunteering, water and environment, youth and education. The Foundation prefers to fund: (1) Directly rather than through third parties or fund-raising events; (2) Specific projects rather than general funds; (3) One-off programmes in aid of the disadvantaged; and (4) Locally-registered organisations under Section 88 of Hong Kong’s Inland Revenue Department. Continuing last year “Bringing People Together” them to facilitate district-based community initiatives to foster a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Priority will be given to projects that show: (1) Creativity: Induce creativity in promoting worthy social causes and create common grounds across people with different gender, age, ethnics, social and economic background; (2) Participation: Open up a wide range of opportunities for the community to participate, serve, share, learn, develop and innovate; (3) Commununity: Drive programmes and activities on meaningful social needs to benefit the community through leveraging the charity’s expertise and resources in the most effective way; and (4) Planning: Demonstrate efficient planning and cost effective programme implementation.

2) Eligibility

Eligible applicants are: non-profit organisations registered under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap112) for at least 3 years.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Hong Kong.

4) Budget

Grant volumes differ per program and no standard maximum/minimum amounts are mentioned. Funding amount ranges from a minimum of HKD200,000 (approx. $25,515 USD) and maximum HKD500,000 (approx $63,787 USD).

5) Application

Applications must be written in English and must include the following (1) a one-page executive summary; (2) project details that demonstrate the project’s merits and justifications; (3) detailed budget plan; (4) implementation details with a timeline for outputs and outcomes; (5) communication / promotion plan; and (6) supporting documents. Applications should be sent via email to hbfsecretariat(a)hsbc.com.hk. The Foundation’s Advisory Committee meets four times a year (March, June, October).
