Description
1) Objective
With a desire to contribute to a lasting improvement in society, the Levi Lassen Foundation provides financial support to non-profit organizations that serve the public good. The Foundation focuses in particular on stimulating social change by increasing social and economic justice in Israel and the Netherlands (The Hague). In addition, the Levi Lassen Foundation supports the Jewish community in the Netherlands. The aim of the foundation is to support organizations and projects that are committed to social and economic justice, on the understanding that at least two thirds of the Foundation’s benefits must go to Jewish organizations.
In Israel they have two grant award categories:
- Ethiopian-Israeli women and men (ages 15 to 30): educate, provide training, support, provide life skills, help integrate in society and/or empower young Ethiopian-Israeli women and men (ages 15-30)
- Dutch-affiliated organizations in Israel. Especially those that provide support for elderly immigrants from Holland, such as nursing homes.
The project (not necessarily the NGO) must be of a grassroots nature, so also small innovative projects of a large NGO will be considered. The project must have a down to earth impact and, at least on the face of it, make a difference.
Eligible are organizations officially registered as non-profits in Israel (amutot, community interest companies, and charities) with valid authorization of non-profit status (rishum amuta), proper management certificate (nihul takin) (unless the organization exists for only a short time) and valid certification from tax and VAT authorities (Ishur nihul sfarim ve nikuy mas). Start-up NGOs do not need a nihul takin.
3) Location
Projects must be carried out in Israel, excluding occupied territories.
4) Budget
NGOs may apply for up to €15,000 a year and may be given a grant for a period of one year. Grantees may apply for a renewal grant (subject to submitting an evaluation report which has to be approved by the foundation). One can apply for no more than 50% of the total costs of the specific project.
5) Application
Applications are accepted throughout the year and dates for board meetings are regularly displayed on their website. Applications must be sent via the website only. The first stage is a Letter of Interest. Within two weeks applicants should receive the foundation’s decision whether or not they are invited to submit a stage 2 full application.
