Description
1) Objective
The Mediterranean Women’s Fund (MedWF) was created in January 2008 through the initiative of women who have been involved for many years in promoting women’s rights in the Mediterranean region. The Fund is based on the ethical principles of equality, of secularism and of respect for human beings and for the environment, as well as an engagement to promote peace. It is also based on international legislation concerning human rights and also on a holistic vision of society supported by the women’s movement around the world.
Priority topics for the Mediterranean Women’s Fund are:
- Transmission to young women
- Capacity building of women’s associations
- Strengthening networks at the Mediterranean regional level
- Combating violence against women
- Defending sexual and reproductive rights
- Advocacy and action for equal rights
- Awareness raising through art and culture
2) Eligibility
Eligible for grant funding are women’s organisations/associations based in the Mediterranean region. Eligible for funding are local women’s organisations governed and directed by women that demonstrate a clear commitment to women’s equality and women’s human rights (priority is given to organisations that are in their first five years of activity and do not have access to institutional funders).
3) Location
Actions must take place in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Palestine.
4) Budget
The maximum amount of grant size per project is €5,000.
5) Application
Interested organisations are requested to fill in a two-page Letter of Inquiry (LoI) using the format on the Fund’s website and return it via email to the Fund: request(a)medwomensfund.org. If the MedWF is interested in your project, you will be invited to submit a more detailed application that will be presented to the Selection Committee. There are certain cut off dates during the year announced on their website.
