Description

1) Objective

Save Our Species (SOS) Alliance was created in 2010 as a joint initiative with  IUCN, the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility. SOS was created as a global initiative working to protect threatened species from extinction, their habitats and the communities that depend on those species. SOS supports the best frontline wildlife conservation projects worldwide and helps governments, international and multilateral organisations directly in achieving its goals. It supports direct action on species conservation priorities informed by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ and Species Survival Commission (SSC) experts, Species Profiles and Action Plans.

In the framework of the SOS African Wildlife initiative, Rapid Action Grants are available to enable and support CSOs engaged in the conservation of threatened species to carry out urgent conservation measures at local level to protect the species and their habitat. Eligible projects should respond to emergency situations requiring rapid action, rather than proposing programmatic action on long-standing issues. Rapid Action Grants are now also open to projects responding to threats linked to COVID-19 crisis and its consequences.
