Description

1) Objective

The Stewardship Foundation is a family foundation in Tacoma, Washington with roots dating back to 1947. It provides resources to Christ-centered organisations that share their faith in Jesus in word and deed with others throughout the world. They provide financial support to organisations in the United States and the development world. The Stewardship Foundation will consider grants to organizations which promote:

  • Poverty: they support organizations that alleviate urban and rural poverty with a local emphasis on homelessness as well as organisations that alleviate urban and rural poverty in the developing world through community development including agriculture, economic, education, health, and water initiatives.
  • Justice and Reconciliation: they support organisations working on behalf of people suffering all forms of injustice, oppression and persecution, particularly racial and ethnic injustice as well as organizations that promote civil dialogue, constructive bridge building, and restoration initiatives.
  • Faith and Discipleship: they support organizations whose work draws people closer to Christ as well as efforts to nurture faith in Christ through genuine, faithful relationships.
  • Children at Risk: they support organizations that assist vulnerable children, protecting them from abuse and unfair treatment, helping them to develop and thrive as healthy human beings.
  • Leadership: they support organizations that are addressing the realities of a rapidly changing, more diverse world, which calls for the continuing development of established leaders, and providing wider access to leadership for emerging leaders, sometimes through non-traditional pathways and from historically under-represented groups.

2) Eligibility

Grants are made to non-denominational parachurch organisations (holding a United States Internal Revenue Service letter verifying public 501(c)(3) status) for either project support or general operational support.

3) Location

Outside the United States they have no defined focus countries but provide assistance across the developing world.

4) Budget

Annual total giving is around $6,000,000. Grants usually range from $10,000-$100,000.

5) Application

Organisations are eligible to apply for a grant once per year. Organisations that apply for the first time need to submit a (max. 2-page) Letter of Inquiry that contains a brief description of the organisation, a problem statement, the time frame for the project, and the proposed budget for total cost of the project and the amount requested from the Foundation (indicating other sources of support). Letters of Inquiry must be send by post to: Dr. Cary A. Paine, President, Stewardship Foundation, PO Box 1278, Tacoma, WA 98401-1278. The applicant organisation will be notified within 30 days if they are invited to submit a full proposal. If so, a standard application form will be emailed to the applicant.
