Description
1) Objective
Vitamin Angels provide lifesaving vitamins to mothers and children under five at risk of malnutrition – reducing preventable illness, blindness, and death – to create a healthier world. They have built a network of over 1,000 local non-profits globally who have a deep understanding of the communities they serve and can identify and fill gaps in health services. Vitamin Angels provides grants of in-kind commodity donations, technical support, and training to qualified organizations interested and able to integrate the following evidence-based nutrition interventions during the first 1,000 days and up to five years:
- Multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) for pregnant women (Domestic and International)
- Vitamin A supplements for children 6-59 months (International Only)
- Albendazole, a deworming treatment for children 12-59 months (International Only)
2) Eligibility
Organizations applying for a grant must meet the following criteria: (1) Be a locally registered organization in the country of program operation (i.e., non-governmental organization, clinic, faith-based group, government facility or agency); (2) Can reach pregnant women and/or children ages 6–59 months and serve at least 500 children ages 6–59 months and/or 100 pregnant women annually (some exceptions apply); (3) Serve individuals who do not have regular access to vitamin A, Albendazole (deworming), and/or maternal nutrition supplements (iron and folic acid or MMS) from national health services; (4) Be able to distribute the nutrition interventions provided by Vitamin Angels without financial funding from Vitamin Angels.
3) Location
They currently work in almost 60 developing countries across the globe. Their regional focus is on those countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America/Caribbean that have been identified by the WHO or UNICEF as vitamin A deficient priority countries.
4) Budget
Vitamin Angels does not provide financial support. They provide in-kind commodity donations, technical support, and training
