Description
1) Objective
The World Childhood Foundation was founded in 1999 by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden. The mission of the Foundation is to prevent abuse and exploitation of children. They support and implement over 100 projects around the world, assisting children who are at risk of or are victims of abuse, children who are in alternative care, street children, and families at risk. Childhood supports projects financially, but also through strategic capacity building and networking opportunities. The Foundation promotes cooperation, knowledge transfer, and help improve and promote efforts in a cost-effective and qualitatively efficient way to support children in need. Childhood’s project managers work closely with the organizations, offering support and development assistance, both at an organizational level and with frequent visits.
Childhood’s focus currently lies in the following thematic areas:
- Child online safety
- Child supportive environments and relationships
- Child focused response to abuse
2) Eligibility
All funded projects have to be implemented by a local NGO registered in the country of implementation.
3) Location
They work in Brazil, Cambodia, Moldova, Sweden, South Africa, Thailand, Ukraine.
4) Budget
The grant size is not mentioned. Their annual funding volume is around $7,500,000 for app. 130 projects.
5) Application
Applicants first have to do the eligibility quick scan on their website. Only if all answers are yes you may submit a concept note. They will contact you for further dialogue only if your concept is in line with their priorities and funding priorities for the specific country. The concept note must be submitted online. A prior visit from Childhood where we they meet your staff and get an understanding for the context you are working in is required before you can submit an application. Deadlines for submission are April 15 and October 15 each year. A decision is made by Childhood’s Board of Directors in mid June respectively mid December. Project periods start from July 1st or January 1st.
