Description

1)  Objective

The HAND Foundation is an advisory, advocacy, and grant-making organisation dedicated to building better communities by enabling the growth and advancement of individuals. They advise and invest in seven areas of social change that build, inform, and strengthen the individual. Founded in 2003, the Foundation’s mission is to advance the philanthropic sector, prevent child sexual abuse, build a global middle class and prepare and engage the next generation. Focus areas include: (1) advancement in philanthropy and voluntarism; (2) education and training; (3) social entrepreneurship; (4) debate and advocacy; (5) prevention of child sexual abuse; (6) advancement of women and girls; and (7) crisis management and rebuilding. They invest in social causes and individuals that share their beliefs and values, are making a meaningful difference in one of their focus areas, and are part of a larger network of people and organisations in their field.

The Foundation also offers scholarships of up to $30,000 to Persian-speaking individuals with high academic standing. The scholarships are awarded to cover tuition fees, books and materials, and living expenses for first-year PhD students studying economics at eligible academic institutions.

2) Eligibility

The HAND Foundation supports 501(c)(3) public charities. The majority of grants are made to organisations with which they have a deep relationship and extensive engagement.

3) Location

The Foundation funds various projects in line with their focus areas around the globe.

4) Budget

The HAND Foundation invests up to $750,000 each year, and their investments range in size from $5,000 to $150,000. They like to start small, and grow their investment over time to support the aspirations of their grantees.
