Description
1) Objective
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, is launching the Young Africa Innovates (YAI) Programme in Ghana. The program aims to address the high rate of unemployment among young Ghanaians aged 15-35, particularly targeting marginalized groups such as women, rural communities, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). With 25% of young Ghanaians not in employment, education, or training, entrepreneurship emerges as a vital pathway to tackle this issue. However, the failure rate of Ghanaian startups stands at 74%, indicating a significant need for support systems and pathways for development and scalability.
Through the YAI Programme, UNDP seeks to identify, select, and scale innovative youth-led solutions that contribute to employment generation and strengthen the innovation ecosystem. The 1st Call for Proposals invites NGOs/CSOs/CBOs to scout for and promote innovative solutions at the grassroots level in the Central, Western, and Western North Regions of Ghana. The ultimate goal is to build capacity and platforms within local communities to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
2) Eligibility
The call for proposals is open to NGOs/CSOs/CBOs with strong experience in grassroots community mobilization, particularly with marginalized groups such as youth, women, rural communities, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Organizations must demonstrate a fair understanding of Ghana’s startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Ghana.
4) Budget
The grant size is not mentioned.
