Description

1) Objective

The funding programme Hospital Partnerships – Partners Strengthen Health was established by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation as an important contribution for global health in the context of international collaboration. Since its start in 2016, the initiative has supported actors from medical and healthcare institutions in Germany in assisting their partners in low- and middle-income countries to build-up and implement health services. The focus of these programmes is on education and training. All medical areas and specialisations are represented.

The “Academic” funding line is announced annually and was launched for the first time in summer 2021. It addresses German-international partner projects that jointly implement research activities. The focus is on skills development with the aim of sustainably improving healthcare in low- and middle-income countries.

2) Eligibility

German university hospitals or research institutions are eligible. The international partner institutions must be hospitals with an existing scientific orientation or university hospitals. A long-term, institutional partnership is identifiable. Partner institutions come from low-and middle-income countries according to the OECD-DAC criteria, except for Turkey.

3) Location

Actions must take place in medium- and low-income countries.

4) Budget

Funding amount is € 200,000 based on a signed subsidy agreement.

5) Application

The third application phase for the funding line “Academic” starts on 1 November and ends on 29 November 2023.
