Description
1) Objective
Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank AG (Development Bank of Austria) finances investments of private companies in developing countries and emerging markets. They provide loans at near-market conditions, provide capital and increase the developmental effectiveness of their projects with related programs. OeEB combines commercial financing with the principles of development cooperation.
This investment financing service from OeEB finances private sector investment projects in developing countries and emerging markets. Loans are provided at near-market conditions (without interest relief) for developmentally and economically sensible projects in the sectors: (1) climate change; (2) SME development, (3) energy, (4) waster water, and (5) agriculture. In their strategy 2024-2028 they have chosen the fields of green finance, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and financial inclusion, private infrastructure and industry, and gender equality as focus areas.

Most of the grantees are profit organisations.
3) Location
They operate worldwide in the DAC Countries.
4) Budget
OeEB invests around €800 million per year in app. 70 projects (95% loans and 5% equity). Most of their funding goes to energy (40%) and SME development (17%) mainly in Southern Europe followed by Central Asia and Central America. The volumes are up to approx. €25 million per transaction.
