Description
1) Objective
Farmer Support Activity through which 17,000 smallholder farmers in 17 districts in four regions of Northern Ghana will be supported with cash based transfers (CBT) to reinforce their resilience and preserve agricultural productivity. Food insecurity is caused mainly by climatic factors in northern Ghana, where about 90 per cent of households are involved in agriculture as their main livelihood. The recurrent climatic shock has been compounded by the recent inflation and hike in prices of agricultural inputs, including fertilizers. With only one primary planting season, the north relies on rain-fed agriculture. The cash transfer intervention will enable SHFs to purchase fertilizer, inputs, mechanization and food.
Expected Results are:
Verification and sensitization of the target beneficiaries, notably SHFs, farmer based organisations (FBOs), aggregators and processors in the targeted areas, remains pertinent towards ensuring that the right beneficiaries are reached with the right assistance, and that these selected beneficiaries are adequately informed of the selection/eligibility criteria for the projects, their entitlements and duration of assistance.
