Description

1) Objective

The Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation engages family members in meaningful, responsible philanthropy that promotes the welfare of human and natural resources. Programs in the following areas that aid women and children are of special interest: (1) Children´s Initiative: goal is to support direct service programs that promote resilience, stability, and pyscho-social health for youth ages 12 and above who have been traumatized by Adverse Childhood Experiences; (2) International Initiative: goal is to advance opportunity, equity, and well-being for women and girls in developing countries by helping them overcome hardship, reach their full potential, and help their families and communities to flourish; and (3) Sustainable Forests and Communities Initiative: goal is to promote the creation of environmentally and economically sustainable forest communities in the regions of the United States where the Weyerhaeuser Family’s business interests originated.

The goal of the International Initiative is to advance opportunity, equity, and well-being for women and girls in developing countries by helping them overcome hardship, reach their full potential, and help their families and communities to flourish.
The Foundation funds programs that deliver or promote: (1) Economic Opportunity: Skill building, entrepreneurial and employment training, and access to capital and markets; (2) Education: High quality and relevant education in an environment in which girls feel safe and encouraged; (3) Health: The physical and psychological well-being of girls, and women and their children.

2) Eligibility

Organizations must be classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organisation who are directly involved in international programs. The Foundation will not fund U.S. organizations that do not have a significant oversight of operations abroad.

3) Location

They fund activities in Africa, Latin America and Asia (they do not have any focus countries).

4) Budget

The average grant size for the International Initiative is $30,000 or less. The Foundation will not consider a grant request that is greater than 15% of an organization’s current annual operating budget.

5) Application

The Foundation has a two-stage application process: a Letter of Inquiry, due June 15; and Full Proposal, due August 8. A Letter of Inquiry must be submitted to advance to the Full Proposal stage and be considered for funding. Submission of a Full Proposal is by invitation only. The Foundation will review all Letters of Inquiry at their meeting.
