Description
1) Objective
In line with international, regional, national laws and policies, Interagency minimum standards for protection and UNHCR policies, the partner will work with UNHCR and government stakeholders including Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Immigration, Police, Prisons, and the Judiciary among others improve access to Justice for refugees and asylum seekers in Tanzania.
Activities will include legal aid provision, court representation, regular monitoring visits to immigration/police stations and detention centers, and legal awareness campaigns conducted through trained paralegals, ffacilitation of civil documentation (birth, marriage, death) and individual case management. The project will also advocate for structural legal reforms to improve access to justice for the forcibly displaced persons, including the establishment of mobile and juvenile courts and increased language interpretation services during legal proceedings. The law has put the requirement for the refugees to live in a designated area (refugee camp) where strict encampment
