Description
1) Objective
The Mission Kampala Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund 2024, administered by the U.S. Embassy in Uganda, aims to support small-scale, community-based initiatives that promote self-reliance, foster development, widen civic space and engagement, protect and promote human rights, and have an immediate and significant impact on local communities.
Projects focusing on gathering spaces, vulnerable populations, gender equity, civic participation, and climate change mitigation are particularly encouraged. With a commitment to helping Ugandans help themselves, the fund reflects the U.S. government’s dedication to supporting grassroots initiatives that address pressing socio-economic challenges at the local level.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants include private institutions of higher education, small businesses, individuals, independent school districts, and both nonprofit organizations with and without 501(c)(3) status. Community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Uganda are also eligible, provided they are registered at the local government level and demonstrate a genuine need for support. Applicants must show a track record of successful community projects and propose initiatives that align with the fund’s objectives.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Uganda.
4) Budget
The total program funding available for the Mission Kampala Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund 2024 is estimated to be $50,000. Individual awards may range from $2,500 to $10,000, with an expected 10 awards to be granted. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that demonstrate cost-effectiveness and maximize impact within the available budget.
