Description
1) Objective
Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, invites civil society organizations (CSOs) to express their interest in partnership and funding opportunities for initiatives starting in 2025. The objective is to strengthen civil society organizations in partner countries to enhance their capacity in improving living conditions for individuals facing poverty and oppression. Through this call, Sida aims to ensure that the objectives outlined in the Strategy for Sweden’s Development Cooperation with Civil Society (the CSO Strategy) are met. These objectives include strengthening the capacity of civil society in developing countries and creating an enabling environment for civil society to thrive.
Sida seeks diverse partners contributing to objectives such as democracy, human rights, gender equality, and peace and security. The call aligns with Sweden’s commitment to supporting independent and diverse civil society organizations, reflecting the upcoming strategic direction titled “Development assistance for a new era – freedom, empowerment, and sustainable growth.”
2) Eligibility
The call is open to civil society organizations conducting long-term development cooperation relevant to the objectives outlined in Sweden’s current strategy for development cooperation with civil society. Eligible organizations include those based and operating directly in countries eligible for official development assistance (ODA), organizations forwarding funds to civil society actors in ODA countries, and organizations not based in an ODA country but focusing on creating an enabling environment for civil society in developing countries.
3) Location
The call focuses on civil society organizations operating in countries eligible for official development assistance (ODA) and other developing countries.
4) Budget
The budget and funding opportunities for selected organizations vary based on their proposed initiatives and contributions. Organizations outside ODA countries are required to contribute own funding corresponding to 15 per cent of Sida’s contribution, with a minimum of USD 500,000 for organizations forwarding funds.
5) Application
Interested organizations must submit an expression of interest through Sida’s digital form by May 27, 2024. The process consists of four steps, including the submission of a concept note, relevance assessment, capacity assessment, and full application for selected potential partners. Detailed information on the application process and timeline is provided on Sida’s website, with support available for inquiries and assistance.
