Description

1) Objective

The aim of the International Co-Investigator Scheme is to facilitate and finance collaborative research projects with international partners. It is targeted at researchers in Switzerland whose projects include subprojects abroad. Both the Swiss-based project and the subproject conducted by the international partner will be evaluated and funded by the SNSF. The agreement with Sweden, Norway, Germany and Austria covers all disciplines, while the agreement with Britain covers only the humanities and social sciences. The International Co-Investigator Scheme is a project funding scheme. The requirements set out in Articles 4 and 5 of the Project Funding Regulations also apply to international co-applicants.

Overhead costs and the salary of the applicant abroad are not covered by the scheme. International research teams based in countries other than those listed above can also participate in Swiss projects under the Sinergia programme. With its project funding scheme, the Swiss National Science Foundation enables researchers to independently conduct research projects with topics and goals of their own choice. Under the project funding scheme, qualified researchers define their research themes and objectives themselves and conduct their project under their own responsibility.

2) Eligibility

If two or more applicants jointly submit an application, each applicant must individually meet the requirements: Natural persons are eligible to submit applications if they meet the general eligibility requirements for the submission of applications of the Funding Regulations of the SNSF. Applicants must have obtained a doctorate four years before the submission date of the application or they must have completed three years of research work as their main source of income since obtaining their higher education degree. Such research work will be regarded as equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants must be able to show that they are employed at least 50% for the duration of the project at a research institution eligible for research funding from the SNSF.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Switzerland and can include other countries abroad.

4) Budget

The funding period ranges from one to four years, with grants starting at CHF 50,000 (minimum amount).

5) Application

Grant applications must be submitted by the responsible applicant via the web platform of the SNSF (www.mySNF.ch). Proposals can be submitted by the usual deadlines on 1 April and 1 October. Only one application may be submitted per submission deadline. In addition to the regular application documents, please submit the form International Co-Investigator Scheme. A corresponding submission at the funding agency of the project partners is not necessary.
