Description

1) Objective

Founded in 1993, the Frontline AIDS aims to end AIDS through community action. To this end, the Alliance supports community groups in countries that are most affected by the global AIDS crisis. They currently work with communities in over 40 countries to take local, national and global action on HIV, health and human rights. In all of the countries they work, they focus on those most vulnerable to HIV. This includes marginalised or criminalised people such as LGBT people, sex workers and people who use drugs. They are also involved in policy and advocacy work at international and national/regional level.

The Rapid Response Fund helps organisations and individuals to tackle HIV-related human rights challenges, including stigma, discrimination and threats of violence. They focus on marginalised groups affected by HIV: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people; sex workers; and people who use drugs.

The fund helps in three ways:

  • Providing emergency financial grants to organisations.
  • Supporting organisations to strengthen their capacity for emergency human rights response work.
  • Documenting and sharing best practice, to help influence decisions by governments and donors.

2) Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a grant, an organisation must: (1) be based in one of the eligible countries, and (2) be an LGBT-led organisation, or have a proven track record of working with LGBT communities; and (3) have an annual income of less than $1 million USD.

Actions must take place in: (1) Caribbean: Haiti; Jamaica; Dominican Republic; Guyana; St Vincent and the Grenadines; Trinidad and Tobago; (2) East Africa: Ethiopia; Rwanda; South Sudan; Tanzania; (3) South East Asia: Cambodia; Vietnam; (4) Southern Africa: Angola; (5) West and Central Africa: Benin; Cameroon; Chad; Côte d’Ivoire; Gabon; Gambia; Ghana; Mali; Senegal; Sierra Leone; Togo.
