Description

1) Objective

The Roddenberry Foundation was set up in 2010 in memory of Gene Roddenberry, creator of the Star Trek series. The Foundation builds on a philosophy of inclusion, diversity, and respect for life to drive social change and meaningfully improve the lives of people around the world. The Roddenberry Fellowship is a 12-month program that offers Fellows $50,000 to take an existing initiative (e.g. campaign, organization) to the next level and amplify its impact OR to launch a new initiative.

Fellows must be working on a project, organization, or initiative with direct impact in one of five areas:

  • Civil Rights
  • Environmental Protection
  • Immigration and Refugee Rights
  • LGBTQIA and Women’s Rights
  • Health and Wellness

They are looking for organizations that are in the pilot to growth stage. This means organisations that have been around for four years or less. This allows fellows to connect with others who are leading organizations at similar developmental stages, and allows us to focus our resources on supporting earlier-stage organizations.

2) Eligibility

The Roddenberry Foundation welcomes applicants from across the United States.

3) Location

Actions can take place in various countries worldwide.

4) Budget

Up to 20 applicants working in one of five issue areas will be selected as 2024 Fellows. They get $50,000. Fellowship funds will be awarded as grants to achieve impact described in the application, including but not limited to salaries, project development, and technology. Funding received from The Roddenberry Foundation must be used for the project’s purposes as stated in the application.

5) Application

All eligible applicants and nominees are invited to submit a short application via the online portal from April 22 to May 17, 2024.
