Description
1) Objective
The Rory Peck Trust is the only organisation dedicated to the support, safety and welfare of freelance newsgatherers around the world. The Trust was set up in 1995 in memory of freelance cameraman Rory Peck. The objectives of the Trust are: (1) to provide practical assistance and support to freelance newsgatherers and their families worldwide; (2) to raise their profile, promote their welfare and safety; and (3) to support their right to report freely and without fear. The Rory Peck Training Fund makes hostile environment training affordable for freelancers.
Since its launch in 2000, the Fund has given hundreds of bursaries to freelance journalists, photographers, cameramen and filmmakers, enabling them to gain the vital skills and knowledge needed for work in hostile environments. The Trust works with six course providers. Applicants must take the training with one of them.
2) Eligibility
Rory Peck Training Bursaries are for freelancers who work internationally. To qualify applicants will need to have worked as a freelancer in news gathering and/or current affairs for a minimum of 18 months. The number of bursaries are limited and priority is given to freelancers whose work habitually takes them into hostile environments, and to those with a forthcoming confirmed assignment.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
The budget size is not displayed.
5) Application
To apply for the Rory Peck Training Fund, please complete the online application form via the link on their website. Note that you will also need to include the contact details of two referees who can endorse your application and vouch for your work as a freelancer. There are no deadlines.
