Description

1) Objective

The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by trans youth in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the limited support from legal and policy frameworks and decreased funding for essential services exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Partnering with the Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) under the project “Transcending Borders,” Youth LEAD seeks to provide seed funding to trans and youth-led organizations. These funds will support initiatives that enhance the inclusion, participation, and voice of young trans people within their organizations.

Objectives include identifying opportunities for organizational enhancement and increasing the capacity of organizations to address trans youth issues and needs. Ultimately, the initiative aims to empower trans youth to become leaders in their communities and organizations, fostering transformative change and addressing the intersectional challenges faced by young trans individuals.

2) Eligibility

Regional and national non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Asia-Pacific region are eligible to apply. Applicants must be trans-/youth-/YKP-led or serving organizations with a proven track record of implementing projects related to trans rights, youth, and HIV/AIDS. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to supporting trans, youth, and YKP communities in the Asia-Pacific region and promoting trans youth inclusion and participation in HIV response and programming.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Asia Pacific.

4) Budget

A total of three organizations will be selected for seed funding, with each organization receiving a maximum budget of US$2,900. Funds can be allocated for both activity and administrative expenses.

5) Application

Interested organizations should submit a completed work plan and budget plan outlining proposed activities to increase trans youth inclusion and participation within their organizations. Applications must include organization background information, registration or fiscal host agreement, recent annual programmatic and audit reports, and a detailed work plan and budget plan. Applications should be emailed to opp@youth-lead.org by May 30, 2024. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further review.
