Description
1) Objective
The Save our Seas Foundation (SOSF) provides grants for innovative solutions in marine research, conservation and education, focusing primarily on charismatic threatened wildlife and their habitats. Since their inception they have funded over 200 projects in over 50 countries across the globe. Their programmatic interest lies in (1) research for conservation; (2) education for conservation; and (3) conservation (especially sharks and rays).
Aimed at original and innovative start-up projects, the grant presents early career scientists, conservationists or educators with an opportunity to prove themselves. It targets local projects conducted by local project leaders. Whether or not the project is part of a larger endeavour, SOSF Small Grants are for specific and finite projects. Only projects concerned with marine chondrichthyan species (sharks, rays, skates, sawfishes and chimaeras) will be considered. A special call is aimed at supporting projects that promote the recovery of sawfishes, wedgefish and guitarfish. However, any chondrichthyan projects are welcomed.
2) Eligibility
Eligible applicants are career scientists, conservationists or educators.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
The Small Grant is designed for short (12- to 18-month) and small (grants average US$5,000) projects dedicated to early career scientists (within five years of a degree being awarded).
5) Application
The Small Grant application process consists of a two-stage online application: (1) Stage I: OPEN. until June 28th, 6pm CET; (2) Stage II: if your stage I application is successful, you will will be invited to submit your stage II application in August 2025.
