Description
1) Objective
Fondation Mérieux’s grants programme contributes towards financing projects that aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. The projects including as beneficiaries mothers and children are given priority. Projects must relate to HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, neglected tropical infections and other infectious diseases that represent significant problems to public health.
The project must meet the following criteria: (1) it is run in developing countries by local people; (2) it relates to HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis neglected tropical infections and other infectious diseases that represent significant problems to public health; and (3) it provides concrete solutions that are suitable and sustainable for the local population and goes beyond education and outreach.
2) Eligibility
Fondation Mérieux’s grants programme is open to the projects of private individuals, organisations or associations, provided that they are long-term and incorporate local health. Eligibility criteria includes: (1) registered with the authorities of the country; (2) status of association under the law of 1901 or recognized as a public utility or equivalent status for foreign structures; (3) nonprofit and independent management; (4) exclusive mission of public interest in connection with the Mérieux Foundation’s mandate: fight against the infectious diseases the affects the most vulnerable populations in developing countries, especially mothers and children.
3) Location
Actions must take place in Africa (Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Tunisia, Senegal, Togo), America (Brazil, Haiti), Asia (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Iraq, Iran, Laos, Lebanon, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Vietnam), and Pacific (Vanuatu).
4) Budget
An annual total of €50,000 is allocated every year by Fondation Mérieux to this programme. Up to ten selected projects will be able to receive a maximum grant of €5,000.
5) Application
Application deadlines are twice a year: 1 March and 1 August. The application is done online and the link can be found on their website.
