Description

1) Objective

Under this scheme swift and direct financial assistance can be provided to NGOs, local communities and religious institutions for the implementation of a small project for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society. Particular consideration will be given to the gender equality policy of the project (e.g. providing equal access to resources such as education, information, income, energy, drinking water and infrastructure, as well as tangibly improving women’s lives in the project area). Preference is generally given to projects in the sectors of poverty reduction, public health & sanitation improvement, income generation and basic education. There has to be a direct and concrete impact for the beneficiaries with a sustainability of the whole measure for at least two years.

Examples of Small-Scale projects that can be financed by this Embassy are listed below to illustrate the scope of possibilities:

  • Tubewells for drinking water and latrines for slum populations or poor tribal communities
  • Extension or repair of school buildings;
  • Construction of a building for vocational training;
  • Electrification of a rural school building with solar energy panels for vocational training
  • Construction of a communal chicken hatchery facility;
  • Purchase of medical equipment for a centre for orphans;
  • Poultry rearing farm for income generation;
  • Extension of an agricultural irrigation system;
  • Construction of a bakery for vocational training of handicapped youths;
  • Improvement of medical facilities for underprivileged communities
  • Purchase of dairy cattle for rural school
  • Establishment of a solid waste processing facility for slum population
  • Construction of a rural health centre for mother & child

2) Eligibility

Non-profit organisations are eligible to apply.

3) Location

Actions must take place in Botswana.

4) Budget

For each small-scale project up to 5,000€ (approximately up to 80,000 Pula subject to fluctuations in the currency exchange rate) can be provided.

5) Application

At the beginning of each year eligible projects are selected for promotion with focal regard to sustainability, feasibility and maximum benefit for the most disadvantaged groups of society. Project proposals should be submitted to this Embassy towards the end of the year, i.e. October – December, in order to be considered for possible funding in the following project season. Applications submitted later may have to be postphoned to the next year if funds have already been allocated. Application forms are available at the Development Cooperation section of the German Embassy or on request by e-mail.
