They work with the private sector to encourage entrepreneurship and build sustainable businesses, advising them on a wide range of issues, including environmental, social and governance standards, energy and resource efficiency, and supply chains. They help expand access to critical finance for individuals and micro, small, and medium enterprises through their work with financial intermediary clients. Their areas of expertise are:
- agribusiness and forestry
- health and education
- infrastructure
- public private partnerships
- manufacturing
- telecommunications
- media and technology
- tourism, retail and property.
2) Eligibility
Social business organisations are eligible to apply.
3) Location
Financial support is given to projects and companies in developing countries/emerging markets across the globe.
4) Budget
Loans are typically given for 7 to 12 years. Equity investments are usually between 5 and 20 percent of a company’s equity. They provide loans, equity funding, venture capital and general financial advisory services.
5) Application
There are specific application procedures for the different types of financing (loans, equity funding, venture capital). A company or entrepreneur seeking to establish a new venture or expand an existing enterprise must submit an investment proposal to the IFC field office that is closest to the location of the proposed project. The application form for all types of financial services can be downloaded from IFC’s website.
