Description
1) Objective
Tools with a Mission (TWAM) collect unwanted tools, refurbish them, sort them into trade kits and send them across the world. They want to support local people supporting their own communities through livelihood creating projects. TWAM sends around 22 containers filled with over 300 tonnes of tools every year. These tools involves computer and IT equipment, scholar packs, school books, or bikes. Their focus region is Sub-Saharan Africa, with the main countries of destination being DR Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
2) Eligibility
Any registered charity/NGO either working in Africa or based in Africa that meets the requirements and ethos of TWAM can apply for tools. TWAM will not accept applications from businesses or individuals – you must be able to prove you are a charity, faith based or community group.
3) Location
They focus region is Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on DR Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
4) Budget
They do not give grants in monetary form. They make no charge for tools but they do ask for contribution to the cost of the shipping.
5) Application
Interested organisations can apply via the online form all year round. The Country Coordinator will assess the application and let the organisation know whether or not TWAM can help. They will then provide guidance through the rest of the process including agreeing the tools to be sent, the shipping cost and the date the tools will leave the UK.
