Description
1) Objective
Hazel’s Footprints Trust was established in 2004 in memory of Hazel Scott Aiton whose death in a car accident that year left an unfillable hole in the lives of everybody who knew and loved her. The Trust has three aims: (1) to advance education for the public benefit by the provision of financial assistance to people embarking on a period of voluntary work overseas – so-called ‘footprinter grants’; (2) to promote the charitable purpose of Otjikondo Village School in Namibia; and (3) to relieve poverty and advance education elsewhere in the world – so-called ‘education projects grants’ or ‘third aim grants’.
The principal reason for providing footprinter grants is to improve the lives children through education. They feel that helping volunteers travel overseas to support education is an extremely cost effective way of adding that extra something into the lives of those visited. Also, to broaden horizons by exposing you to a different culture and to develop personality and self-confidence by helping others in less fortunate surroundings. And thirdly, to provide the trust and its supporters with reports on the adventures and experiences. This not only gives those who donate something back, but will also act as a reference web site for others who are following to help them make up their minds who to go with and where to go when they are making the difficult decision having taken the plunge of going on a Gap Year.
Individuals applying for Footprinter volunteer grants will only be considered if they plan to volunteer for a minimum of six months in one location. Only UK-resident applicants are eligible.
