Description
1) Objective
The TREE Fund Board of Trustees is launching the new Tree and Soil Research Grant, made possible by a permanently restricted endowment fund supporting areas of research of interest to the landscape architecture community with special focus in the area of trees and the soils that support them. This grant will be offered every other year beginning in 2021.
Supported research for 2024 will include the following:
- the design and specification of trees and soils in urban landscapes;
- propagation and nursery practices that impact the establishment and long term growth of trees;
- improving species diversity;
- tree root and canopy structure improvement;
- soil and drainage design and modification;
- tree planting practices; tree planting space design;
- tree establishment and maintenance practices; and
- planting soil management and maintenance.
2) Eligibility
Organisations are eligible to apply. No grants are given to individuals.
3) Location
Actions can take place worldwide.
4) Budget
Projects are expected to be completed within one to three years, with a maximum award value of $10,000. No project may receive more than one award from this program.
5) Application
TREE Fund will accept completed applications only between August 1 and October 1, 2024. To apply, send an email containing a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) of no more than 100 words describing your project title and concept to treefund(a)treefund.org before September 15, 2024. Your LOI must clearly identify the Principal Investigator and Institution who will be contracted for the work should your application be approved. Also note in your LOI that you wish to apply for the Tree and Soil Research Fund Grant program. TREE Fund will evaluate whether your LOI concept meets all of our application criteria and is deemed to have a reasonable possibility of success given this year’s research priorities. If and only if your LOI is approved, TREE Fund will send you a numbered application form for your use. You may not apply without such a numbered application form, and the number of applications so provided each grant making cycle may be limited. TREE Fund determinations on whether an LOI meets the application criteria are final and not negotiable.
