Description

1) Objective

WiDEF aims to close the gender digital divide by scaling evidence-based solutions that enhance women’s economic security, livelihoods, and resilience through meaningful online participation. The initiative seeks to shift the trajectory of digital ecosystems to ensure equitable access for marginalized populations, including youth, disabled individuals, indigenous groups, LGBTQI+ individuals, and rural women. By offering grant funding and technical support, WiDEF aims to support transformative approaches to digital inclusion and drive measurable progress in closing the gender digital gap.

2) Eligibility

WiDEF invites local entities rooted in their communities to apply for grants and technical support to scale existing solutions addressing the gender digital divide. Applicants should demonstrate successful approaches to advancing gender equality and digital inclusion for women, girls, and marginalized populations in their contexts. Solutions should drive meaningful access to digital technology, significantly reduce the gender digital divide, and be economically sustainable and scalable.

3) Location

Actions can take place worldwide.

4) Budget

The grant funding offered by WiDEF ranges from $500,000 to $1,500,000, with awardees also receiving dedicated technical assistance on program design, implementation, and measurement.

5) Application

Interested entities can apply for WiDEF funding by submitting applications before the deadline on May 6, 2024, at 11:59 pm Eastern US Time. The application process includes providing details about the existing solution, demonstrating its impact in closing the gender digital divide, and outlining plans for scalability and sustainability. Additionally, applicants will have access to FAQ resources and a presentation on eligibility criteria for Round 1 funding. Further funding opportunities will be announced later in 2024, including support for large private sector actors and a dedicated round for WiDEF India.
